Bringing the RCBF to Rochester City Schools, With the Help of Altrusa

The Festival-To-Go program brings the RCBF to students at Rochester City Schools who might not otherwise be able to attend. RCBF founder Vivian Vande Velde recruits authors and illustrators from Rochester Area Children’s Writers & Illustrators to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with K-6 students at one or two Rochester City Schools each year. The presentations are fun and informative, designed to win over even the most reluctant readers. Volunteers participate year after year because they love sharing their passion for reading and writing with such thoughtful, inquisitive kids.

Altrusa International, a long-time RCBF sponsor and service organization in our community, makes the Festival-To-Go even more impactful by donating books to the schools’ libraries. For 100 years now, Altrusa’s goal has been to make communities better through leadership, partnership and service. We can’t thank them enough for partnering with us on this important initiative, year after year. Happy 100th Anniversary, Altrusa International!
